I have shut off the option to stop a force restart in the computer options and it still reboots...Hey Everyone, Long time observer, first time poster here at tom's hardware. It slows my computer down terribly while it's updating. I was on the phone with Microsoft for 2 hours over as many days to fix a problem.During that time MS installed the "Microsoft Security Essentials" program to protect my computer (which is what keeps updating), so I don't think the program is a virus. The Update it says its going to install is this Upgrade to Windows 10 Home, version 1511, 10586 That's all it says and i am all ready in Windows 10, this has also caused the "schedule time for restart" to be grayed out. PLEASE help me stop this endless pain in the arse cycle. I keep getting the Update massage saying my computer needs to be restarted for windows 10 update. I just gave up and did a full reinstall of windows 10 a CLEAN install. 0x C1900101-0x40017 The Installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation. I removed everything so only windows 10 was installed on my system. Run System File Checker: From the start menu, type cmd, then right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator. My PC has restarted like 5 times in the past 5 hours. Thing is every time it restarts nothing is downloaded and it just does it all over again like 15 minutes later. it restarts at 9am then does it again at like 10am then 11am always putting the new time in the schedule for a restart. I removed everything so only windows 10 was installed on my system. In the command window, type sfc /SCANNOW, press enter and let that run. If you get the error above when trying to run SFC, then in the same command window, try running: DISM /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth then DISM /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth then DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth Then let us now what any errors or msgs it reports to you. It did its update thing after it was set up and updated to the current build.
After logging back on, usually only a few seconds passes and the error message pops up again. I also monitor this thread in case anyone has any further questions about my situation. I restored to a day before the error message started happening. I am having the same problem like Kero Kero Cola only that I can't get pass the startup repair because it kept telling me the problem can't be resolved automatically.
Either it will just restart again and I will get a Windows failed to restart error, or the screen will just stay black with a blinking underscore in the top left corner.
